Neighborhoods for the rest of us — Hollywood Park

Bryn Mawr Ave

Peterson Park isn’t in Peterson Park, and Pulaski Park isn’t in Pulaski Park. Hollywood Park is in Hollywood Park, which lies just to the west of Peterson Park (the neighborhood), just east of Peterson Park (the park) and just south of the Pulaski Park neighborhood, in Chicago’s North Park community area, on the far north side. Got that? Henceforth, no parking.

Hollywood Park spans the area from Bryn Mawr Ave (5600 N) north to Peterson Ave (6000 N), and from the Chicago River west to Central Park Ave (3600 W).

Except for the apartment buildings along Kimball Ave, this is a low-density area. Kimball is almost a neighborhood unto itself, and it marks the boundary between the very different eastern and western stretches of Hollywood Park.

Bryn Mawr Ave, from Kimball east to Jersey, is a showcase for the diversity of the areas to the south and east of Hollywood Park, and a harbinger of the changes (not all positive) underway in Hollywood Park itself.

We’ve posted nearly 200 photos of Hollywood Park to a Flickr album. You can also view the images as a slideshow. And, if you have a few hours to while away, you can sample over 4,000 YoChicago images of 80 neighborhoods at Flickr.
