New Antioch homes have easy access to Chain O' Lakes, maritime drinking

Cottages of Newport Cove

Our fondest memory of the Chain O’ Lakes is Blarney Island, a bar whose genius ranks right up there with those beer-holder hats. You pull your boat up to the bar, which is an actual island in the middle of Grass Lake, get the family liquored up, then pile back in the speedboat for an adventurous ride home. Sound like your idea of heaven? Well, you’re in luck. New American Homes recently broke ground on the Cottages of Newport Cove, the first phase of houses in a 42-acre master-planned community located in Antioch, right on Bluff Lake, one of the 17 that make up the Chain.

Prices start in the $350s for single-family homes with two or three bedrooms and two to 2.5 baths plus dens and “tech centers.” Master developer The Landover Corporation also is selling custom waterfront home sites, priced from $350,000. The real kicker, though, is the marina with 140 slips on Bluff Lake, a short stroll from that new home – and a temptingly short ride from Blarney Island.
