Almost all of the signs of last week’s storm have been cleared from the streets and roofs and yards of northwestern Lake View, and I just got electricity back myself yesterday after spending the weekend camping out at home. This tree on the 3600 block of North Hermitage became a tourist attraction for a few days (I took the picture at right Friday morning), but the neighborhood has started to look normal again in the last few days.
Just up the street at 3736 N Hermitage Ave, this $1.4 million five-bedroom single-family home looks like it fared pretty well – even the branches that frame the view from the sidewalk made it through unscathed. And in a neighborhood where old houses and apartment buildings mix comfortably (for the most part) with new construction, the strong and balanced simplicity of this design fits right in. It’s even got a wine cellar in which to weather the next storm.
