The Fox River takes on a different character at different points along its course.
Just north of the Main Street bridge in downtown Saint Charles is a small dam with a sluice gate at its eastern edge. Jordan and I descended a stairway (that was marked closed) to get a closer look at the river. At this point, following some heavy rainfalls, the current was swift, powerful and treacherous.
