Mortgage fraud increased 30% in 2006 over 2005, according to a report released today by the Mortgage Bankers Association (pdf file).
The report shows a staggering 800% increase in the past 6 years. Illinois ranked 7th among the states on an index of mortgage fraud in 2006, down from 3rd place in 2005, despite Illinois’ lax enforcement efforts.
