Pilsen gallery hosts exhibition of Indian films

Polvo, 1458 W 18th St

Low rents have helped contribute to a bustling art scene in Pilsen. One of the many galleries in the neighborhood– Polvo, located at 1458 W 18th St– is hosting a special exhibition of films at 7:15 p.m. this Friday. The four films, ranging from five to 68 minutes in length, were created by Shikshantar: The People’s Institute for Rethinking Education and Development for a festival taking place in India. Dialogue is in Hindi with English subtitles.

Topics revolve around education and include the wisdom of a Gandhian thinker, children living in non-literate communities in India, the biological instinct toward learning, and the struggle to preserve traditional art forms in the face of modernity. The discussion and response section afterwards includes an opportunity to contribute to a video that will be sent back to Shikshantar. Sounds pretty interesting, and it’s free!
