Roscoe Flats model shows variation on the usual finishes

Granite counters and hardwood floors (not to mention marble baths and stainless steel appliances) have become so ubiquitous at Chicago condo developments that it can be startling to see a place that takes a different approach. So it went this weekend when we popped into Roscoe Flats, 3028 W Roscoe, an 18-unit development from JAB Partners (we reviewed this project recently and found that it “could be a good buy”).

A model unit decorated by Nate Berkus of Oprah fame eschewed hardwood floors in the living areas in favor of gray stone tiles. Nate also ditched the granite counters for white Corian and painted the kitchen cabinets sage green. He played with the layout of the room, choosing to lop off the overhang on the breakfast bar and move the eating area (designated by a white circular table from Jayson Home & Garden on Clybourn Avenue) to the center of the open kitchen / living area.

The unit is available at $389,800, according to a price list handed out at an open house by Rita Trittipo of Jameson Realty Group, which is marketing the project. The other 12 remaining units are priced from the $280s to the $370s.

What do yo’all think? Has Nate scored with this setup? Is Corian back?
