Smooth sounds at the intersection of two Kings in Chatham

Cole Park Cole Park

At the intersection of 85th Street and Dr Martin Luther King Drive sits Cole Park, named after Chicago’s own legendary jazz musician Nat King Cole (1919-1965). Born in Montgomery, Ala. on Saint Patrick’s Day, Cole’s family moved to the South Side when he was four and, as they say, “the rest is history.” Today, the park’s constant sounds of children playing, balls bouncing, birds humming and feet pounding meld into a pleasant cacophony that seems a fitting tribute to a jazz master.
