Living "in a Helmut Jahn" is state of mind for Chicago condo buyers

600NFairbanksblog.jpgEver noticed that some people don’t live in Streeterville, they live in a Mies? Well that’s what it’s going to be like at the high-rise 600 N Fairbanks. Buyers won’t tell you they live in Streeterville, they’ll say they live in a Helmut Jahn. It’s already happening. First there was Chester Suski, senior art director at Playboy magazine, who bought a condo at 600 N Fairbanks because he thinks the building is destined to become a landmark, according to a story in yesterday’s New York Times.Today we chatted to Chris Karabas, who works as an agent for film directors, but is best known for his part-time gigs.

Karabas is the front man for Chicago’s The Lucky Jackson Band, but most recently has enjoyed success with Chris K & The Kids Table Band, an album of children’s songs that’s getting a lot of airplay.

This morning Karabas bought a three-bedroom condo at 600 N Fairbanks because he loves the architecture and he thinks his condo also will be a great investment, thanks to the Jahn-factor.

“In [600 N Fairbanks] you are the view, which is almost as good as having one,” Karabas says. He thinks his condo will have good resale value. “The products that get affected in a saturated condo market are the ordinary ones,” he adds.
