Developers frequently have trouble finishing units by their promised delivery dates, but we couldn’t help noticing that builder Joseph Freed & Associates timed the opening of the garage at its Residences at the Vic condo project, 3140 N Sheffield Ave, to coincide perfectly with today’s Cubs opener. Condo buyers will have to wait to move into their homes, which are still under construction, but meanwhile, Cubs fans can park in the building starting today for $20 a pop.
The sidewalk on the west side of the 3100 block of North Sheffield, which has been closed for many, many months — creating headaches for businesses, residents and drivers — also reopened today. A cynic might think the builder was more motivated by an opportunity to lower its carrying costs than by efforts to be a good neighbor or to deliver condos on time, but we happen to know the timing here was purely coincidental. Really.
