Tallgrass is a slice of the English countryside in Lake Barrington

Graftcustomhomes.jpgWhen Michael J. Graft Builder named its newest community of custom homes in Lake Barrington “Tallgrass,” the company wasn’t kidding. The development of 71 home sites will sit on 109 acres planted with 11,000 square feet of prairie grass.

If that’s not earthy enough for you, the company also plans to construct an eight-foot berm out of wildflowers and more grass. The berm, which will be topped with cobblestones, will line the perimeter of the development. It all sounds frightfully lovely and English, doesn’t it? Fancy some high tea with your berm?

Tallgrass also will abut the 588-acre Grassy Forest Preserve, which has a 3.5-mile trail for hikers and cross-country skiiers. Homes at the site, which is at Kelsey, River and Miller roads, start from $1.25 million.
