The views from Golub’s proposed South Loop apartments

Crain’s Chicago Real Estate Daily reported earlier today that Golub & Co. is buying the southeast corner of 9th and State Street from the city, and plans to build a 35-story, 392-apartment tower on the site. The deal joins the crowded field building and vying to build more than 7,000 new apartments in the greater downtown area – included Golub’s own proposed apartments at 410 E Grand Ave in Streeterville.

The South Loop site is, of course, immediately south of Astoria Tower, 8 E 9th St, which converted to rentals late last year after a long, agonizing condominium sales effort. It should have views very similar to the ones in these stills, and in the video walk-around I shot a while back, on a very windy day, from the penthouse level at Astoria Tower.
