Wanted: Affordable pre-war home in cool Chicago neighborhood

The good folk over at Apartment Therapy have an interesting thread underway where a reader has asked for suggestions of affordable Chicago neighborhoods with a good stock of pre-war housing. The reader is about to relocate from Queens. Apartment Therapy suggested that the reader check out Humboldt Park and Logan Square and Ukrainian Village, citing their proximity to more expensive neighborhoods such as Bucktown and Wicker Park. Yo’s truly can’t say that Ukrainian Village seems so affordable these days, though, given that home prices are in direct proportion to the coolness quotient in the U.V.

If you wondered whether Chicago home prices were getting a little loopy by national standards, consider this snippet from another Apartment Therapy reader: “My husband and I are planning our move to Chicago from San Francisco. We are just starting our hunt for a condo near the lake in Rogers Park, and the prices are making us dizzy.”
