What does a police officer do in rustic Riverwoods?

The tiny (population 4,000) Village of Riverwoods is an easily overlooked enclave in Chicago’s northern suburbs, bordered by Lincolnshire, Deerfield, Northbrook and Buffalo Grove. Driving through Riverwoods it’s easy to believe you’re in a forest preserve rather than an inhabited place.

I recently re-connected with old friends, Bill and Sherry Kaplan, who happen to be the Mayor and First Lady of Riverwoods, and they took me on a guided tour of their bailiwick, starting at the village hall, driving through the village, and stopping for walks through several beautiful homes.

I arrived for our meeting a few minutes before Bill and Sherry and had the pleasure of meeting Sheri Tyler, the Riverwoods Police Commander. Although she’d had no advance notice, Sheri was very good natured about going on camera with us and talking about what a police officer does in a village that has virtually no crime.

Search Riverwoods YoChicago at YouTube for more of our tour in the upcoming days.
