Work in progress: 50 East Chestnut

50 E Chestnut

When we visited 50 East Chestnut in May (right), the 39-story high-rise was barely off the ground, but now the entire base and at least six floors of the tower have been built. The 34-unit building, designed by architect Solomon Cordwell Buenz, famously has only one unit on each floor– three-bedroom condos with 3,550 to 3,905 square feet, private elevator foyers, floor-to-ceiling windows and two private terraces. It also has first-floor retail space, a concierge, a common terrace with a dog run, and an exercise room on the top floor. Should be pretty swank, but you’ve got to really want it: prices start at more than $2 million. For that price point in River North, we’re just happy to see a building that isn’t faux-historical schlock.
