Work in progress: new $1M Ravenswood rowhomes a solid addition

Wolcott and Sunnyside Rowhomes

As we pointed out in an earlier post on Mangan Builders’ Wolcott and Sunnyside Rowhomes, the attached brick homes are a welcome addition to a corner that needed some sprucing up. Commercial space on Damen Avenue, directly west, has picked up, as it has on Montrose, a little to the south (The new Glenn’s Diner, 1820 W Montrose Ave, is killer, though we’re reluctant to admit it – the wait for Sunday brunch is already getting uncomfortably long).

But this pocket of Ravenswood is still a little scruffy. In some ways, the simple brick townhouses with restrained bays and a stone base will look like they belong more than the old, cramped townhouses nearby or the giant apartment buildings – some quite beautiful – to the north. The scale on these units is a little more human.

The eight homes have three or four bedrooms and 2.5 to 3.5 baths, with 2,450 to 3,700 square feet. They’re priced from $999,900, which means you can buy and still say you got in for under $1 million.

Below are the current rendering (top) and an earlier one (bottom). Note that the lighter color brick around the bays has given way to the uniformly darker brick, and stone has been added at the base.
