The real-life Columbian, under construction at 1160 S Michigan Ave, is bound to be a letdown after you’ve seen that prismatic rendering that looks like it was designed by Willy Wonka at a Jefferson Airplane concert. The building’s brick-clad design plays it safe, given its prominent location at Michigan Ave and Roosevelt Rd, the gateway to Grant Park. The 46-story condo building is, however, a vast improvement over the dumpy Avenue Motel that previously stood at the site. The Columbian’s 220 condos have one to three bedrooms, and prices range from the $330s to $1.5 million.
