Another Division Street Joewalk (Part 1)

by Joseph Askins on 7/20/09

“How solid are the changes?” Joe Zekas asked last week about the stretch of Division Street that marks the border betweenWicker Park, Ukrainian Village, and the East Village. Fifteen months after my first Division Street “Joewalk,” I returned to the street on Friday to survey the residential and commercial landscape between Ashland Avenue and Leavitt Street.

Here, I begin just west of the Polish Triangle and take a look at RDM Development’s Vision, 1624 W Division St, where construction is still occurring, even if a lot of condo marketing isn’t.

Check back throughout the week to see more segments of my walk west to Leavitt.

Sorry but this project is proportioned and positioned like a 60’s motor motel. So whether or not this project sells well is a non issue for me, it’s a failure architecturally and that’s when I lose interest.
