Chicago rent barometer: Wicker Park on the high end

Wicker Park apartmentWicker Park’s days as a haven for bohemians on a budget seem long gone judging by these rentals, most of which sound like condos being rented out by their owners. The three-bed three-bath duplex at Paulina and Division streets (pictured) is “only a few years old” and has stainless steel appliances, marble bathrooms, two fireplaces, in-unit laundry and one garage parking space. The rent is $2,700 a month, and the place is available October 1st.

We spotted a new-construction duplex penthouse at Milwaukee and Damen avenues. The 2,600-square-foot unit has three bedrooms, three bathrooms, 12-foot ceiling heights, granite countertops, in-unit laundry, Brazilian cherry floors, a two-person Jacuzzi tub, slate tile and a balcony with skyline views. Rent is a slight $4,000 a month, and it’s available September 1st.
A two-bedroom two-bathroom unit at Bosworth and North avenues will set you back $2,250 a month. The place has stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, a fireplace, Brazilian cherry floors, in-unit laundry, a roof deck, two private balconies and one garage parking space. It’s available September 1st.

And just to show you that Wicker Park hasn’t totally turned its back on the artists, a 3,000-square-foot loft, supposedly “perfect for a live / work space for artists or musicians,” is located at Milwaukee Ave and Paulina St. The loft has four bedrooms and two bathrooms. Rent is $2,300 a month, so your band’s totally wicked new E.P. will have to sell a helluva lot of copies to make this place affordable.
