Can quaint Northbrook retain its charm despite growth and inevitable teardowns?

In the September issue of New Homes Magazine, Yo’s own Michael Austin takes a look at the northwest suburb of Northbrook and finds the country’s oldest garage, the ghosts of Ferris Bueller, lots of teardowns, and lots of white people.

Approximately 33,500 people live in Northbrook, and while racial diversity is not one of the town’s selling points (recent statistics indicate that 89 percent of its residents are white and 9 percent Asian), the village has maintained an economic diversity that honors its agrarian roots.
