For most of us, Halloween is the one day when we can dress up in a disguise of our choosing. This year, it looks like the top portion of the 48-story office building at 55 E Monroe St will be dressing up as a luxury condo building. Spooky!
To the tourists milling about in Millennium Park, it might look like the Park Monroe’s facade is crumbling off the box-shaped tower, but as regular Yo readers surely recall, for the past two years developer GlenStar Properties has been tinkering in its laboratory, quietly transforming the top nine floors of the building. Now the monster has finally broken loose, and we’re starting to see some cosmetic changes to the exterior of the building.
After taking a couple of photos from Michigan Avenue, I stopped in the sales center to chat with sales agent Audra Hall about construction. She says workers are currently building inset balconies and changing all of the windows, most of which should be installed within about a month. Construction is scheduled to wrap up in the spring.
As we’ve been reporting for most of the year, sales are at about 80 percent at Park Monroe, with mostly two-bedrooms remaining. Those homes are priced from the $850s to $1.7 million.
