Dinner and drama in a mansion

Lookingglass isn’t the only place for live theater along the Magnificent Mile.

Just a few steps off Michigan Avenue, at Lawry’s The Prime Rib (100 E. Ontario), there’s a murder mystery a-brewin’. But Wait, you say — That’s a restaurant. Indeed it is, but on select Mondays from Sept. 18 through Nov. 20, the restaurant hosts a “dinner to die for” including an interactive theater experience and a classic Lawry’s dinner featuring the famed spinning salad bowl plus prime rib and Yorkshire pudding, mashed potates and gravy; or grilled salmon with creamed spinach and mashed potatoes; or pasta with mushrooms and fresh asparagus. Everyone gets strawberry English trifle for dessert.

It all goes down in the historic McCormick Mansion that the restaurant calls home.

“Murder at the McCormick Mansion” costs $93.50 per person. Call 773-267-6400.

If the play’s not the thing for you and you’re not up for dinner, either, steal an hour mid-day to visit Lawry’s Ale & Sandwich Bar. Pick out a sandwich from the fresh carvery, claim a leather wingback chair in the old-school lobby and enjoy your lunch like a proper lord should.
