EPA cites unhealthy lead levels in Pilsen

The Trib is reporting that the US Environmental Protection Agency has moved to designate Pilsen as a community where people are breathing unhealthy levels of toxic lead.

The Tribune had previously reported that lead levels near a Pilsen elementary school have spiked to more than 10 times higher than federal limits. A major source of the lead pollution is thought to be the H. Kramer and Co. plant pictured above.

The H. Kramer plant has a history with the EPA. The Fisk power plant in Pilsen has also been the subject of controversy, as noted in this video:
