Five easy pieces on the real estate market with Elizabeth August of @properties

by Joseph Askins on 10/23/09

Elizabeth August of @propertiesWe’ve called up @properties agent Elizabeth August several times over the years, mostly to get the latest scoop on the new condos at 155 N Aberdeen St in the West Loop. Today she took a few minutes out of her schedule to answer our “five easy pieces” about the real estate market.

Describe the mood of the market.
It’s getting better. It’s starting to seem a little more positive out there.

What’s the most common question you hear from buyers?
“How long has the home been on the market?” and “Have there been any price reductions?”

What’s your best piece of advice for sellers?
Pricing is key — good starting price points.

Give me your best “There’s never been a better time to buy!” pitch.
For first-time buyers it would be the federal tax credit, which is coming to a close soon. A write-off would be such a positive thing, because $8,000 is a lot of money for a lot of people. And then for everyone, we’re entering that time of year when people who need to sell are going to deal.

What’s the wildest, weirdest, or worst marketing ploy you’ve come across lately?
I’ve seen just about everything. Yesterday I saw a woman driving around in a little car with a huge sticker of herself, and I thought it was the craziest thing ever. She was all over her car — I’d never do that.
