Franklin Park "marvel" converted to lofts

The Grand Lofts

It’s not too often we see suburban loft conversions, let alone the conversion of a building called the “technical marvel of its time.” JDL Development Corp, which is also working on 541 West Cornelia in Lake View, is turning a former Motorola manufacturing center in suburban Franklin Park into The Grand Lofts. The building, located at 9401 W Grand Ave, once saw the newest televisions, radios and phonographs of the day, and it had such luxurious features as an assembly line with air conditioning and piped-in music, an “executive car lift that delivered the president’s automobile directly to his office,” and a helicopter landing pad.

New amenities to the building include a business center, theatre room, party room, game room and club lounge. The one- and two-bedroom lofts have 850- 1,900 square feet. Prices start in the $170s and include parking. JDL is accepting reservations for the development.
