Last week, we had a chance to check out Sky55, the luxury high-rise rental community at 1255 S Michigan Ave that Forest City Residential opened in March 2006. The development features two buildings: an 11-story senior residence with 91 units and a 40-story tower with 411 units.
With a choice of 24 different floor plans (up to two bedrooms plus den and 2.5 bathrooms), rents at Sky55 range from $1,503 to about $4,600 depending on the view (Soldier Field, skyline, lake or city). The units feature the kinds of finishes usually reserved for condos, like granite countertops, stainless steel appliances and private balconies. Hardwood floors are also standard, with carpet in the bedrooms and dens.
Sky55 also has amenities typically found at high-end condo developments. Residents of both buildings have access to the seventh floor of the 40-story tower, which has a terrace with an in-ground pool and Jacuzzi. Indoor common areas include a state-of-the-art fitness center, computer room, library, various (free) wi-fi hotspots, media room (with 60-inch screen and tiered seating) and conference room. There is also a party room available for rent.
Utilities such as cable, telephone, gas and electric are not included in the rent. Monthly parking is also available at a rate of $225 (unreserved space), $275 (reserved space) or $375 (tandem spot). Pets are welcome, but restrictions apply and a one-time fee is due at lease signing.
