New mixed-use develoment proposed for Logan Square

by Erik Stonikas on 10/20/09

Plans for several tall, mixed-use developments along North Milwaukee Avenue in Logan Square will go in front of the 1st Ward’s advisory panel next week, according to Raymond Valadez, chief of staff to Alderman Manuel Flores.

The proposed development would take up several lots including the old Dearborn Wholesale Grocers site just east of California Avenue, as well as a vacant lot at Talman Avenue. The developer is seeking TIF funds for the buildings, which would include apartments and retail spaces, and would consequently be required to set aside at least 25 percent of its units for affordable housing.

The hearing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, at the Urban Vineyard Church, 2145 N Maplewood Ave in Logan Square. The meeting is open to the public.

Great news!

That area could certainly use the density, especially in light of the fact that there’s an L stop in the neighborhood.

Ald Flores seems to be reasonable when it comes to development, so I’m hopeful that there shouldn’t be too many obstacles to this development moving forward

tup,

YoChicago is the Internet source for this.

As local reporting becomes ever more sparse we’ve been reaching out directly to aldermanic offices requesting updates.
