Quote: The future of vacancies and rents

“If we wanted to be hopeful about the situation, we might see a recovery by the middle of this year. If we don’t see any movement like that by the middle of the year, then it’s going to be a bad year again.”

- Victor Calanog, director of research for Reis Inc. Apartment vacancies reached a 30-year high in the fourth quarter of 2009, and rents saw the biggest one-year drop over the course of the year, according to Reis.
