Redeveloping the Children’s Memorial Hospital site in Lincoln Park

Today is a milestone in the history of Lincoln Park hospitals in Chicago. It’s the day that the Plan Commission hears the Webster Square proposal for the former Lincoln Park Hospital site. And it’s the deadline for submission of bids and preliminary proposals for the redevelopment of the Children’s Memorial Hospital site.

A joint venture which includes Belgravia Group will be one of the bidders — a group likely to include some of Chicago’s most accomplished developers.

Yesterday we met Jon McCulloch of Belgravia Group at the original Potbelly’s, just a few steps from Children’s Memorial Hospital, and Jon outlined some of the considerations that should guide any development of the site.

Belgravia is asking residents to continue the dialogue that was started at community meetings and land use studies by submitting their own ideas and comments at ShapeCMH.com. Belgravia founder Buzz Ruttenberg got the ball rolling with a post about his history in Lincoln Park; Joe Zekas followed with some observations on the hospital’s past and how any redevelopment plan should proceed.
