Who ever would have guessed yuppies and architecture buffs and professionals of all stripes would begin snapping up and polishing these houses like treasured trophies? The bungalow has become hip, thanks to skyrocketing real estate prices and the Historic Chicago Bungalow Initiative of Mayor Daley, who grew up in a bungalow in our general neck of the woods. The latest sign of the bungalow’s rise in fortunes is the Historic Chicago Bungalow and Green Home Expo, a free event that will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30 at the Merchandise Mart.
