What to expect when renting a condo

by Joe Zekas on 2/9/10

If you’ve never rented a condo before you might be in for a series of rude shocks: unexpected delays, hefty fees, gotcha pet policies – even a visit from the sheriff when your owner’s been foreclosed.

A couple months back I sat down with Tim Brent of Chicago Apartments & Condos to talk about condo rentals. Tim’s an 18-year veteran of the apartment rental industry, and familiar with the highly-individualized requirements of different condo complexes.

The takeaway: steer clear of most apartment rental services if you’re about to rent a condo. Go directly to the listing agent,, the landlord or a highly-experienced rental agent. And be sure you get all the relevant facts in advance.

Um, “rental service” and “rental agent” sound the same to me. Definitions, examples, please?

Well, there’s some weird YouTube glitch going on.

I didn’t see the block becaue I’m signed into YouTube as YoChicago1, the owner of the video. When I sign out I see the block.

I will delete and re-upload the video.

Added – should be working now. Thanks for the reports.
