Yo’s year: Roosevelt Collection revisited

December’s a month meant for retrospectives and year-end lists, so over these final three weeks of 2009, I’ll dig back through our archives to see which posts and videos got people talking.

I’m going to start off with YoChicago’s single most popular post of 2009, Joe Zekas’ plea for more information about Centrum Properties’ Lofts at Roosevelt Collection. “If no news, send rumors – Roosevelt Collection edition,” posted on June 19, went up at a time when neither we nor the buyers under contract at the South Loop development could get a straight answer about whether these homes were converting to apartments. Over the next two months, buyers chimed in with updates and vented their frustration in this post’s comments section.

On August 7, Centrum finally announced the termination of Roosevelt Collection’s contracts and a shift toward renting out the development’s first 170 units. Apartment rental services were flooding Craigslist with ads within the day, prompting another buzzworthy post from Zekas: “Maggots begin to swarm at Roosevelt Collection.”

Mark Boyer and I got our first look inside Roosevelt Collection in October. I plan to revisit the development before the end of the year to check on its biggest attraction, a new Kerasotes ShowPlace movie theater.
