Amenities, services, policies

Cats are welcome; dogs aren’t.

The location

441 West Barry is on a quiet one-way residential street in Lakeview East, a block east of busy Broadway and a half-block from Sheridan Rd.

The location is attractive: close to the park and a wide selection of bars, restaurants and neighborhood shops, and four blocks from Saint Joseph Hospital.

Shopping. 441 West Barry has good proximity to grocery shopping.

Trader Joe’s on Diversey and Walmart Neighborhood Market on Broadway are a few short blocks from the building. The Walmart has a pharmacy and there’s also a new Walgreens at Clark and Diversey.

Anyone setting up housekeeping for the first time will appreciate having Discount Mattress, Bed Bath & Beyond and Affordable Portables a few short blocks away.

Dining, nightlife, entertainment.
There’s a huge variety of bars, restaurants and nightlife options within a short walk of the building.

Broadway, a half-block west of the building, is a pedestrian-friendly strip with dozens of eateries, bars and locally-owned retail shops to the north and south.

Stella’s Diner, a block west of 441 West Barry, is a long-time neighborhood favorite.

Duffy’s Tavern, Pars Cove and Miss Asia are just a few of the venues you’ll find clustered along Diversey a few blocks south of the building. The popular Yolk opened recently at Pine Grove and Diversey. Expect a wait for breakfast on weekends.

Chipotle, Starbucks, Potbelly, Jamba Juice and Panera are also on Diversey.

Century Centre Cinema is just north of Diversey on Clark St, a few blocks away.

Parks, recreation.
Lincoln Park, which is a short walk east of 441 West Barry, has too many attractions to list.

The Zoo, the Conservatory and its gardens, the landmark Alfred Caldwell Lily Pool, the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum and other Lincoln Park draws are all within easy access of the building.

Active recreation opportunities are abundant, some of them unexpected. Fly fishing lessons, for example, are available at North Pond in the park and the golf driving range at Diversey is open year-round. There are clay tennis courts and miniature golf adjacent to the driving range. With a little bit of luck you might strike up a friendship with someone who has a boat in Diversey Harbor.

The park also offers endless opportunities for quiet relaxation.

Transportation. 441 West Barry has good access to public transportation.

A variety of CTA bus routes traverse the area. The #36 Broadway bus, a half-block from the property, travels into the Loop. The #77 bus at the corner connects to the CTA Red, Brown and Purple Line stop at Belmont for travel south to the Loop or north to Evanston. The #77 continues west for Blue Line transit to O’Hare Airport.

The #151 bus stops a half-block east of the building and connects to the Loop via Michigan Ave.

Taxi service is nearly always available nearby. Zipcar car-sharing locations and DIVVY bike stations are also nearby.

Access to I-90/94 and the city’s expressway grid is inconvenient, and can be a source of major misery during peak hours. The building has easy access to Lake Shore Drive.
