550 St. Clair on the rise in Streeterville

550 St. Clair

Streeterville has come a long way since a rough-and-tumble sea captain named George Streeter ran his boat aground north of the Chicago River in 1886. Indeed, Streeterville has come a long way in just the last couple of years. Nowhere is the neighborhood’s evolution more evident than south of Ontario Street, where at least seven new high-rises are under construction. At least three more — including the 150-story Chicago Spire — are in the works.

Workers have reached the 12th floor of the 26-story 550 St. Clair in Streeterville. The Brininstool + Lynch-designed high-rise, with its clean lines and strong columns, makes one of the more modern architectural statements in the neighborhood. Eighty percent of the building’s 111 units have sold, and prices on the remaining condos range from the $320s to more than $1.7 million. Developer Sutherland Pearsall is including one garage parking space with studios and one- and two-bedroom units, and three-bedroom units include two spaces. First Chicago Realty, the project’s exclusive marketing agent, expects delivery by the end of the year. A sales center is located at 201 E Ohio St.
