A bridge to the lakefront: pedestrian path to be built over Lake Shore Drive

rendering for the park planned at Lake Park Crescent

In the upper right-hand corner of this rendering, you can just make out the swooping, modernist bridge that will connect a new 1.8-acre park planned at Lake Park Crescent, a mixed-income development underway in North Kenwood – Oakland, to Burnham Park along the south lakefront. John Clark, principal in Cordogan, Clark & Associates, is designing the bridge, according to Kim Dooley, marketing director at Draper and Kramer, which is developing Lake Park Crescent’s first phase. The park is a Chicago Park District project.

The lakefront is one of North Kenwood / Oakland’s most striking assets, but until now there have been too few ways to access it. When we headed over there last week, we stumbled around looking for a way to get past the traffic whizzing down Lake Shore Drive. We think the bridge will add value to the properties surrounding Lake Park Crescent, centered roughly at 40th and Lake Park Avenue. What do Yo’all think?
