A builder's advice to buyers

Buy a home when it’s the right time in your life to buy a home. If you need more space, if you’ve gotten married, if you’re looking for a second place in the city and you live in the suburbs… people should hopefully start to get over this idea of the last 10 years that real estate is first and foremost an investment and an alternative to the stock market. It’s shelter, and it’s enjoyment. It’s a place you go home at night and you feel good about where you live. And you should do that when it’s the best time and place for you.

That’s Alan Lev’s advice to buyers in the current real-estate market. Lev, the head of Belgravia Group (developer of projects like 565 Quincy, 600 North Lake Shore Drive, and Union Row) and the president of the Home Builders Association of Greater Chicago, sat down with Joe Zekas last week to talk about his company’s approach to building and pricing.

Joe posted the first video from his interview with Alan over the weekend. You can see more of their conversation at the brand-new NewHomeNotebook YouTube channel.
