A seven-year-old single-family priced like a worker's cottage in Wicker Park

1731 W Ellen St, ChicagoThe median price for a four-bedroom single-family home in Wicker Park is just under $1.15 million. That amount, and slightly less, will get you a newer home, but start delving below $800,000 and most of the choices become limited to old worker’s cottages. One of the few exceptions is this home at 1731 W Ellen St, a 3,000 square-foot four-bedroom / 3.5-bath built in 2003, priced at $749,000. Don’t let the 21-day list time fool you — this place has been listed and delisted six times since April 2007, according to Redfin. (No sign of what any of the earlier asking prices were.)

The home features a limestone facade, three bedrooms on the upper level and one on the lower, a gourmet kitchen with 42-inch cabinets, stainless steel appliances, and a granite-topped island, hardwood floors, a fireplace, a deck atop a two-car garage, and a rooftop deck with skyline views. 2008 taxes are $10,256. Ken Dooley of Conlon has the listing.
