Aqua architect Gang talks to Friends of Downtown

The Yo was on hand this afternoon to see Aqua architect Jeanne Gang speak at Friends of Downtown‘s monthly Brown Bag Luncheon. In response to the overwhelming interest in Gang’s last talk, the program was moved to the Claudia Cassidy Theater in the Chicago Cultural Center. Gang kicked off her PowerPoint presentation with slides of some of her natural sources of inspiration, like tortoise shells and rocks, and treated the audience to a sneak peek at Studio / Gang / Architects‘ designs for an education center in Lincoln Park, the stunning Ford Calumet Environmental Center and an ultra-modern baseball stadium.

After hearing the architect herself discuss the project and show us some of the painstaking logistics involved in designing more than 80 unique floor plates, we’re even more excited about Aqua. We haven’t been by the site for a few weeks, but Gang said construction had begun. Stay tuned for some video clips from her presentation.
