Assessment cap for Chicago homeowners will resurface, but what about real tax reform?

Supporters of a bill that would continue a 7 percent assessment cap for Chicago homeowners failed to pass the legislation in November, but they will try again when the Illinois General Assembly reconvenes this month, according to a story in today’s Chicago Tribune. Illinois residents on both sides of the bill realize that what’s really needed is an overhaul of the state’s tax system, which relies too heavily on property taxes.
