Can new Science park, condos boost Skokie's dead downtown?

Downtown Skokie is about as lively as New Orleans’ Lower Ninth Ward on a wet day, but business owners hope that a new Science and Technology Park on Oakton St will help revive the downtown business district, according to a story in today’s Chicago Tribune. The additional workers certainly won’t hurt, just as the additional residents at nearby condo projects, The Metropolitan of Skokie, Madison Place and 8200 Lincoln, will add some new life to the village center, which was nearly malled out of existence by Old Orchard.

But Skokie seems to lack the kind of coherent, energetic plan that would leverage these assets and new transit into a downtown revival like the ones that boosted Palatine and Des Plaines. Give us your take by clicking on “Comments” below or jumping in on our new Skokie forum.
