Can pop stars sell condos in Chicago?

Madonna

In Chicago, we all know “starchitects” like Helmut Jahn and Lucien Lagrange can move condos. After all, advertisements for Schatz Development‘s 600 North Fairbanks display Jahn’s name as prominently as the name of the building. And Donald Trump is so confident in his brand name that he attaches it to nearly every building he develops, like Trump International Hotel & Tower. A funny thing is happening in Japan, though. Architect Brillia Mare Ariake is using perennial pop star Madonna to pitch his new Tokyo high-rise, Brillia Mare Tower & Garden. According to Madonna’s Web site, she’ll be starring in an advertising campaign that includes a television commercial. Would such an endorsement by a celebrity pitchman fly with Chicago buyers? Would you be more likely to buy a condo at Aqua if Sam Waterston (pun most certainly intended) were talking it up on television? What about X-Man Patrick Stewart selling X / O Condominiums?
