Chicago rent barometer: slim pickings in Beverly / Morgan Park

Artesian Avenue in BeverlyIf you’re looking to rent in Beverly / Morgan Park, an area dominated by owner-occupied single-family homes, your choices are likely to be slim. We scavenged a few listings to give you sense of what’s available.

– For $850, you can rent a two-bedroom one-bath apartment at 9936 S Walden Pkwy. The unit includes some updated features, like bedroom ceiling fans and a new kitchen floor. Devotees of hardwood flooring will be disappointed, since a Craigslist ad specifies that both the bedrooms and living room are carpeted. On the plus side, the building has a washer and dryer on the premises. The unit also includes off-street parking, which, given its proximity to the Metra station, might save you a lot of headaches.

– For $1,500, you can rent a three-bedroom 1.5-bath townhome near 115th Street and Western Avenue. The unit includes hardwood floors throughout and an off-street parking space, and the kitchen and bathroom have been updated – though it’s not clear from the ad how recently and to what extent. There’s also a sauna – a rare perk for a rental. A parking space is included in the rent.

– For $1,800, you can rent this four-bedroom three-bath home on Longwood Drive. The cryptic ad says only that the home is “beautiful,” and doesn’t specify finishes, features or even whether it’s a house or an apartment. Maybe it’s a spaceship. That would be well worth $1,800 a month, we say.
