Chicago rent barometer: Cornering the crappy neighborhood market

Crappynabeblog.jpgThis is what Yo likes to see – a rental advertisment that’s not afraid to tell it like it is. The ad for this home bore the headline: “$695/3br single-family rehabbed home in crappy neighborhood. REAL NICE!!!” The text reinforces the message: “This is real nice if you dont (sic) mind living in a crappy neighborhood!” This “real nice” home is on the 400 block of Harding Avenue, which makes the alleged crappy neighborhood either Austin or Humboldt Park, by Yo’s estimation. Does anyone out there want to share their thoughts on either neighborhood – or has anyone got any stories of cheap deals in, er, less-than-hot neighborhoods?
