Designing your week: the dish on the Spire and the CTA

The final design for The Chicago Spire, the spiralling high-rise proposed for the downtown lakefront, will be presented at 6 p.m. on Monday, March 26 at a meeting of the Streeterville Organization of Active Residents (SOAR). Since all the big stars will be there, including developer Garrett Kelleher and architect Santiago Calatrava, it looks like it’ll be pretty packed. Registration starts at 5:45 at the fifth floor Chicago Ballroom at the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile Hotel, 540 N Michigan Ave. R.S.V.P.’s are required.

If you don’t have any luck getting on the reserved list, you can head over to CTA headquarters at 567 W Lake St for a 6 p.m. community meeting about the impending track repairs that will double commutes for some riders. The CTA’s been pretty candid lately about just how bad this is going to be – it might be interesting to see what they have to say for themselves.
