Livin' large on E Lake Shore: The Drake Tower turntable

Our tour of properties on E Lake Shore Dr kicks off with the Drake Tower, a co-op that’s neighbor to the world-famous Drake Hotel. Built from 1928 to 1931 by Benjamin Marshall, who also was the architect, the Tower still holds distinction as Chicago’s only building with an automobile turntable complementing its parking garage, according to Emporis.com. The turntable, similar to those that rotate showroom display cars, allows drivers to reverse direction after pulling up to the door.

Currently, Rubloff is listing three Drake Tower properties. A roughly $2.9 million three-bedroom contains its own wine cellar. A completely renovated one-bedroom / one-bath with a walk-in shower will set you back $555,000, and if you’re willing to throw in a few hundred thousand more, you can own a one-bedroom with an additional bath.
