We haven’t been to eatZi’s, the shop that sells gourmet prepared foods and specialty items in Lakeview East’s Century Shopping Centre since it opened with a marketing flourish that would have made Arthur Carlson proud. The media types (whores – yours truly included) at the opening were told that they could take food with them as a parting gift from the event. Someone figured they’d have full bellies and grab a sandwich or some pasta on the way out – no more than they could comfortably fit in a basket. This was interpreted by guests as a challenge to see how much stuff each person could possibly make off with – boxes of food, blocks of cheese, bottles of gourmet olive oil, pounds of sushi…The frenzy that followed was a thing of beauty. In the same spirit of subtle marketing, eatZi’s has decided to go with simple, elegant signage at its Lakeview East location, respecting the historic facade of the Century. We just hope the neighbors can find it.
