Glenview to discuss adding 41 acres to The Glen

The GlenGlenview officials will discuss in February plans for 41 acres of land that were a part of a former navy complex, according to a story in today’s Chicago Tribune. A village trustee is quoted as saying of Glenview’s development of the land, “I don’t think there’s any downside to it at all.” That’s not the sort of assessment that Yo’s Michael Austin heard regarding The Glen, the 1,121-acre mixed-use redevelopment of the former Glenview Naval Air Station, when he profiled Glenview earlier this year.

“I would say, as with most changes in a community, it’s a mixed bag,” said Sandy Hausman, who founded a community Web site called Glenview Watch with her husband. Development of The Glen gets generally positive reviews, but residents are concerned with some of its effects – rising taxes, growing school costs, increased traffic congestion. The residential portion of any new development, for instance, would lean toward condos because single-family buyers are more likely to have school-age children and stress local schools already running at capacity.

Developing another 41 acres might be a good thing for Glenview overall, but no downside?
