Work in progress: Rainbo Village

Rainbo Village Rainbo Village

Metropolitan Development‘s Rainbo Village, which was named “best new mid-rise” by New Homes Magazine back in 2004, is still coming along on the 4800 block of North Clark Street in Ravenswood. If you don’t already know the stories behind the two-acre site on which the new development is being built, check out the “Community” section on the Web site to learn a little bit about the 19th-century roadhouse, speakeasy, vaudeville theatre and underground rock venue (which hosted some obscure bands like the Who, the Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin) that all had their days in the sun on that spot. The Village is all new construction, but a terra cotta arch from the original facade will stand at its center. The two buildings that front Clark Street will house 88 soft lofts with floor-to-ceiling windows, 10-foot ceiling heights, polished concrete columns and exposed spiral ductwork. The 127-unit development also will have condos, duplexes and townhouses surrounding a central gazebo. Prices range from the $250s to the $750s. Check out more pictures inside.
