A guide to renting Streeterville apartments and condos

Renting a home or apartment in Chicago’s Streeterville nieghborhood

There are 1,000s of ads on Craigslist for Streeterville apartments, most of them featuring the eleven (that’s all there are) rental high-rises in the neighborhood. Many of those ads are from apartment rental services that promise Xanadu but contain a volume of lies more akin to Kubla Khan’s caverns – “measureless to man.”

Where’s Streeterville?

The Streeterville neighborhood is bounded on the west by Michigan Ave on the south by the Chicago River, on the east by Lake Michigan, and on the north by Walton St, although some include East Lake Shore Dr, which is part of the traditional Gold Coast.

The Gold Coast is directly northwest of Streeterville. Magnificent Mile, River North and Near North are immediately west of Streeterville, and the New East Side and Lake Shore East are directly south, across the river. All of Streeterville lies within ZIP code 60611, which also covers parts of the Gold Cost and other adjacent neighborhoods.

Streeterville rentals consist almost entirely of high-rise apartment towers, of which there are only eleven, and units in high-rose condos. Townhomes along the river and townhome-like units in high-rise condo complexes are occasionally available for rent. Single-family homes are non-existent.

Renting a condo or townhome

There are hundreds of condos and a few townhomes available for rent in Streeterville, but you’ll never hear that from most of the locator services. Look to reputable broker sites to find what’s listed for rent in the Multiple Listing Service (MLS).
