Introducing EcoNorth in North Center

EcoNorth, JCJ Development‘s 48-unit development under construction at 1820 – 1842 W Irving Park Rd, is billed as “North Center’s premiere green development.” To the best of my knowledge, it’s North Center’s only green development, and one of the bigger developments of its kind being built in Chicago right now.

Mary Jaeger of Baird and Warner is marketing the development, and her son James is developing it. She says the project will be presented in phases, beginning with a 16-unit building that’s going up at 1842 W Irving Park Rd. This is JCJ’s first green development, but Jaeger says she sees the market tending towards high-quality, energy-efficient homes, and she expects green features to be mandated before long.

Jaeger says the building has received LEED Silver certification from the US Green Building Council. Some of the features that contributed to that include the green roof, Energy Star appliances, water-efficient faucets and dual-flush toilets. Much of the preexisting building that was demolished was recycled, and the development is located less than a block from the Irving Park Brown Line Station.

All of the homes in EcoNorth are corner units with 1,250 to 1,335 square feet of living space, and they will all have two bedrooms and two or 2.5 baths. The condos run from the $390s to the $450s, and assessments should be between $170 to $220 per month, Jaeger says. Deliveries for the first phase are slated for mid-January. A sales center is currently set up across the street, and Jaeger plans to open a model in the building as soon as construction is finished.
